Alistair Overeem to Fight Tony Sylvester at 'Ultimate Glory' on Oct. 17

Alistair Overeem's opponent for the 10th anniversary Glory card, "Ultimate Glory" on Oct. 17, will be Tony Sylvester and not Sam Hoger as rumored, promoters have announced.

The Strikeforce heavyweight champ Overeem will be fighting MMA for the first time in 2009, a year in which he has dedicated himself more towards K-1 kickboxing than MMA. He's been 1-1 against K-1 GP winners this year and he'll be aiming for the grand prize in December at the K-1 World Grand Prix 2009 Final.

Overeem's participation on the Golden Glory card has long been known and he's one of 13 Golden Glory fighters on the card. His teammates out of the Netherlands-based camp competing on the reunion card include Semmy Schilt, Siyar Bahadurzada, Dion Staring, Ruslan Karaev, Valentijin Overeem and Stefan Leko.

Overeem (29-11 MMA) is also expected to fight eight days later on the DREAM.12 card in Osaka, Japan. No opponent has been announced but Overeem has been included in all promotional materials thus far.

Overeem won the Strikeforce belt in November 2007 but has yet to defend the belt. He went 3-0 and one contest in 2008 for DREAM and Glory events.

Sylvester (11-2) has won eight of his last nine, with the one recent loss to UFC 102's Chris Tuchscherer at the notorious YAMMA Pit Fighting card in April 2008.
