Talk to any contender in the Strikeforce middleweight division, and you'll find out pretty quickly that they all agree on one thing: Cung Le needs to defend his title, and he needs to do so sooner rather than later. When FanHouse spoke to the organization's current 185-pound champion recently, he seemed eager to defend the title he won in March 2008, yet stopped short at saying exactly when that would happen. He also said he would consider vacating the title soon if his schedule doesn't allow him to compete again in the near future. Check out the full video interview below.

I don't get it cung le has every talent in the world to become a legend in this sport I just don't get it
May be his movie star persona has taken over.
CUNG Please defend the title because If you vacate the title you'll be signing your carreer off.
I just don't get it.
As a fellow martial artist, Cung is by far my most favorite fighter to watch. The Shamrock fight was the best.Hope he fights again soon.
Cung Le - GSP.. thats a fight i'd like.
cung le is the most overrated mma guy on the planet, sure he was..WAS great in the form of kick boxing he again was known for. but as far as mma....
1- he doesn't really want to do it.
2- he doesn't have the heart for mma.
3- the only guy he ever really beat was shamwow, whom just tried to stand with him. and he just beat him.
4- shamwow was destroyed by diaz, whom is really a ww.
5- he is holding the title hostage, of course he should vacate the title.
6- he is a movie star now...he is making big money without having to take a punch. he doesn't need or want to fight.
7- if he fights anyone other than a tomato can, he will get beat, then he will quit.
now don't get me wrong, i don't blame him, me and everyone else would probably do the exact same thing. especially, considering his age.
but, all you cung le nuthuggers, he is a made up champion.
sf's best middleweights are really welterweights.
diaz and sheilds, the rest are scrubs.
cung le would get easily beat against any top 10 ufc middleweight and probably any top 10 ufc ww even if they stayed at 170 while he stayed at 185.
i'm just stating the obvious and i know all you ufc haters are just thinking...zoo, your just licking dana's arse here.
bottom line my objective critique is not being clouded by hate.
my opinion is dictated by what i've seen and hopefully rationale logic.
seriously, look at him (cung le), he's 37 hasn't fought in a year and a half.
and to him, you could tell it's not a passion...it's an itch.
well let someone whose livelihood depends on it, to smack that itch for him.
cung le is just trying to decide the best way to keep his image intact.
Stop being a hater dude. Cung Le is a straight up bad ass and I think he would probably beat Shields in that fight. The guy is a traditional martial artist who was an undefeated San Shou kickboxing champion and made a successful transition to MMA.
Who is overrating him anyway? I don't see people saying he is one of the best P4P fighters in the world or that he is even one of top MW MMA fighters in the world. So, how exactly is he overrated?
The guy just said he had major elbow surgery, tried to start working out to make the first Showtime card and his trainer told him to rehab the right way before he started to train.
He isn't saying in the interview that everyone else should have to wait to get the belt or thatother guys aren't deserving. He was actually being very humble and apologetic and said he understands and doesn't want to hold anyone elses careers back and would even vacate the title if he couldn't fight this year.
I don't see where all the hate and malice come from. Nevermind, he is a STRIKEFORCE champion not in the UFC so he must be overhyped and overrated.
Another thing about about Diaz - The reason he primarily fights at Welterweight is because he can't deal with the physicality of most guys who cut down to make middleweight. Cung Le would completely pick him apart and destroy him because he can keep anyone (including Diaz) at his striking range and he (Le) has the most lethal arsenal of kicks on all of MMA.
If he didn't have the "heart" to fight then he wouldn't have tried to come back for the first showtime show and wouldn't be saying that he does still want to be in MMA and that he respects the sport and the organization.
I think Cung Le would beat the hell out of a lot of UFC WW & MW fighters. He would have trouble with someone like GSP or Henderson but I think he might have a pretty decent chance against a guy like Anderson Silva who doesn't mind standing and exchanging.
Don't see the guy short because you are a UFC lackey.
hey johnny,
now, it's kinda cool when we disagree.
i knew you would think i'm being a dana b@ll licker here, however, your the guy that always says "prove it to me" ala brock.
well, beating shamwow, means almost less than nothing these days.
and he didn't destroy shamwow like diaz did.
and him saying he tried to comeback or him saying he still wants to fight mma, seriously whats that mean....talk is cheap!
this has nothing to do with me hating on him, i don't hate the dude. heck, i'm glad he beat shamwow. i just don't see him as this awesome mma kicking machine. sure he's the best san shou fighter, but it just seems, to me, he is a made up champion because he had a name coming in.
again, fight and beat someone with a name.
he is just not a proven mma guy.
there is no empirical evidence to support him being a true mma champ and it has nothing to do with him not being in the ufc.
bottom line cung le is a movie star these days.
and i don't blame him one bit for wanting to be one or continue to be one.
if he ever fights against someone decent and loses he will quit. that's not hating, that is just an opinion.
your refrence to diaz is unfounded, first off he destroyed shamwow, le just beat him.
diaz also destroyed scott smith, what does that say for sf. diaz shouldn't have to move up to fight a quality guy. sorry, this has nothing to do with being a ufc lackey.
same thing goes for shields.
i would have loved to see diaz/riggs.
your saying diaz doesn't want to move up because he doesn't want to deal with the physicality of mw's is just not true. diaz moved up and didn't just beat shamwow and smith, but, destroyed them.
he almost appears to be a better mw than ww.
he is a natural ww, as is shields.
i really like both of them and if i was being so ufc lackyish, i would say diaz sucks because his record in ufc is 6-4 with losses to karo, sherk, riggs and sanchez (whom i dislike the most).
and yet, eventhough he comes across as a nut case, diaz is my favorite fighter.
so aside from diaz and shields, where is the talent is sf. at either ww or mw.
and who is mousasi going to be able to test himself against in sf at lhw?
i hope you read my response to you in the "Spike Trumpets UFC 100 Ratings" post.
it really explains my points there.
it's weird, sf seems to have more talent at hw than any other division.
sf's lw's seem okay and could probably match up well with anyone ufc has, except bj.
but like i said ww,mw,and lhw divisions are really weak.
diaz, shields, mousasi and obviously fedor are the cream of the crop and in my opinion are just as good as anything the ufc has to offer.
possibly overeem, rogers, could as well.
eventhough i think overeem is a nut case and i think rogers will be exposed as another houston alexander.
anyway what's your comeback on that m#therf@#ker!
JUST KIDDING!
i crack myself up sometimes.
Defend or vacate it soon, Jake Shields should be your next fight should you choose to fight otherwise show your overall skills and go to the ufc and fight GSP or Anderson Silva. Prove you have what it takes to be a champion.
cung lee is the best, no need to say more
What about Anderson Silva? Maybe that wouldn't be fair. He's knocking out LHW now.
