Nick Thompson (38-11-1) will face Karl Amoussou (10-3-1) in a middleweight bout at "M-1 Global presents Breakthrough" on August 28 at the Los Angeles Convention Center in California. Thompson confirmed the news with FanHouse on Tuesday.
"The Goat" expressed some frustration over the fact that he will have to fight at 185 pounds instead of his natural fighting weight of 170 pounds.
"I would like to fight at 170, but I can't seem to get a fight (at that weight)," he said.
Thompson recently lost to Tim Kennedy via submission (punches) at the Strikeforce Challengers event in June. That fight was also contested at 185 pounds, and prior to the bout, Thompson openly talked about hoping to move back down to welterweight right away.
Thompson also added that his Strikeforce contract has officially expired, and while he has yet to sign an extension with M-1 Global, he sounded open to doing so.
Born in France, Amoussou has made a name for himself fighting for Team France on the M-1 Global events. He has won his last two fights in a row. The most notable victory on his resume was a July 2008 victory over former "The Ultimate Fighter" cast member, Mike Dolce. Above is a highlight reel showcasing some of his most impressive performances.
MMA Junkie broke the news of M-1 Global's first "major show" on Monday. The event will be headlined by Muhammad "King Mo" Lawal vs. Don Frye, and will air live on HDNet.
