WEC will crown an interim lightweight champion when the promotion makes its first trip to Ohio on September 2. The announcement came today that WEC 43 "Cerrone vs. Henderson" will happen at the Covelli Centre in Youngstown.

Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone (10-1) out of Team Greg Jackson will have to settle for an interim championship title shot until titleholder Jamie Varner recovers from injuries. Cerrone will instead face Ben Henderson (9-1), who has ended six of his nine wins by way of submission.

"[Henderson]'s got an awesome ground game and he's a superior wrestler," Cerrone said. "The only thing he lacks is his standup. I believe that I have what it takes to become champion. I know Ben well and like him, but when the cage door closes, I want to win that belt."

The fight will be Henderson's most publicized thus far in his career.

"There are guys who get in the cage and you can see in their eyes that they're a little bit overwhelmed by the whole thing," Henderson said. "I don't think I'll be overwhelmed. I love Cerrone's game and his 'Terminator' style. He just keeps coming forward."

The Versus broadcast of WEC 43 will begin at 9:00 p.m. ET.
