A heavyweight battle of Cain Velasquez vs. Heath Herring has been added to the June 13 UFC 99 card in Germany, a card that is also expected to feature Rich Franklin vs. Wanderlei Silva, Caol Uno vs. Spencer Fisher and Dan Hardy vs. Marcus Davis.
Tom Hamlin and Damon Martin of MMAWeekly.com are reporting that both Velasquez and Herring have agreed to the fight, although a contract has not yet been signed. The fight will be noteworthy mostly because it's the toughest test yet for the 26-year-old Velasquez, who is 5-0 in his MMA career and has dominated all five opponents. Herring, who has spent the past several months recuperating from the severe beating that Brock Lesnar gave him in August, isn't a great fighter, but he is a credible opponent for Velasquez.
Although the UFC hasn't made any formal announcements about the UFC 99 card, it's looking like Franklin vs. Silva will be the main event, with Uno-Fisher, Hardy-Davis and Velasquez-Herring all on the televised card. That's not exactly a stacked pay-per-view show, but those are all fights I'm looking forward to. And if Velasquez beats Herring, I'll be looking forward to seeing him fight a Top 10 heavyweight next.
