Coleman had previously handed Rua his only loss in 13 Pride fights, beating him by TKO in 2006 when Rua suffered a nasty dislocation of his elbow and couldn't continue.
This time, Rua got a measure of revenge, but he didn't look particularly impressive in the process. He dominated the fight, but it looked more like Coleman was old and slow than like Rua was whipping a good opponent. At the end of the first round, Coleman looked like he was ripe for being finished, but it took Rua until the last minute of the third round before he finally ended it.
Still, for the 27-year-old Rua, any win is a good win at this point. Two years ago he was considered the best light heavyweight in the world, but he lost his UFC debut in 2007 and didn't fight at all in an injury-plagued 2008. Rua's record is now 17-3.
Putting their bad blood aside, the fighters embraced in the Octagon afterward, and then Coleman suggested that they should fight a third time.
"I think I deserve another one," Coleman said. "It's one to one, Shogun."
Coleman, whose record is 15-9, is one of the all-time greats and a UFC Hall of Famer, but he's wrong here: He doesn't deserve another one. He did not look good at all against Rua, and at age 44, he should think long and hard about whether he still belongs in the Octagon.
In the main event at UFC 93, Dan Henderson beat Rich Franklin by split decision, earning Henderson a spot as a coach on the upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter. It was an active fight between two MMA veterans, but it was marred by a couple of accidental fouls, as Henderson and Franklin accidentally butted heads in the first round, and then Henderson accidentally poked Franklin in the eye in the third.
Other UFC 93 action included Marcus Davis beating Chris Lytle in a wild split decision, and Alan Belcher stunning Denis Kang by getting him in a guillotine choke. It was the UFC's first trip to Dublin, Ireland, and the enthusiastic reception of the Irish fans indicates that they'll be back for more.
Here are the full UFC 93 results.

Coleman is my favorite fighter of all time, but I want him to quit now before he gets hurt. I'm just glad he didn't fight Lesnar, who would have crushed him.
coleman should retire, he is to slow and thinks too long before he strikes. he needs to quit before he gets hurt
i just think coleman got his ass kick no dought about that and rua gave it his best shot Congrats to Rua
Coleman looked pretty good and gave Rua a real hard fight. Rua's cardio seemed to be an issue from the second round on. He's been out a while and needs to work on his conditioning.
that fight sucked!!!! it was the slowest fight i have ever seen! i thought i had my DVR box on slowmotion!!!!
Two greats here. Wish I'd been in Dublin to see... At 44, Coleman does need to consider graceful retirement before an opponent forces an involuntary retirement due to injury. Still a great fighter. And, if Rua really was struggling with cardio by the second round, he needs to take some time off to get back up to snuff himself. This isn't a kiddie sport
the jermey horn and Rousimar Palhares was the best fight of the night! that was a true MMA bout!
(Yaawwwnn) Huh? What? Is it finally over? Can we watch something else besides geriatric fist fights, now?
Since when do you become a legend with a
15-9 record, are we that hard up for a hero ?
15-9 is blah, at best.
maybe it is true this whole society is becoming a dung heap of mediocrity.
Mr. shogun better pick up his cardio especially since he's in the steepest division being a light heavyweight. He was previosly known as the #1 Light Heavyweight in the world, so now they're gonna give him nothing but tough fights.. I think they pretty much spoon fed him coleman but he'll definitely have his hands full when he faces Chuck Liddell in his next fight.
rya is one of the best but coleman had him beat if he wasnrt so damn tired they woulda givin him the win
Lets see. I would say 100% of you could not have lasted as long as coleman did. So i say good for
Coleman. It wasn't that bad of a display for a guy his age.
what we really need is for Fedor Emelianenko to fight Lesnar. Then everyone else...
its hard to have some of the greatest fighters on earth compete without the greatest in the mix.
First off....
Rua sucked in that fight.
If he couldn't dominate the human punching bag coleman this fight how the hell do you see him again'st wanderlei, jackson or a machida?
Seriously coleman was winning the fight and actually did outstanding.
He took him down a couple of times, gave him some punches on the ground, defended well with rua tryin to go for some submissions.
I will say this : Rua does not deserve to be in the ufc.
He was outpowered by a 44 year old wrestler who could barely stand up.
Coleman really does deserve a next fight against him.
for the record, I am really not a coleman fan.
I personaly thought he would get crushed.
RUA......viadinho
Both of them sucked, they both could barely stand up.
it sucked they both were slow ass hell. couldnt even keep their hands up.... Shogun, going down hill. he couldnt even know Hammer out... Sad fight, made both of them look silly....
Colmen is a warrior & a really cool guy, met him in Columbus when I lived there. That said, his time is up, but I would let him get his wish & fight again. You have to admire his spirit & will to come back & get in the ring.
To all of you dissing Coleman, let's see what your ass is up to at 44!
Neither fighter looked impressive having been out of action for a while (Rua for over a year because of a recurring injury and Mark Coleman for two years).
This fight definitely wasn't great; but Coleman did set the pace and scored often with takedowns and his ground-n-pound game. The fight was stopped prematurely, in my opinion, because Coleman was stunned but not defenseless by the uppercut. TKO? No way!
