EliteXC, the mixed martial arts organization that made a splash by putting Internet sensation Kimbo Slice on live network television, has gone out of business.Josh Gross of Sports Illustrated reports that the organization has told his fighters that their upcoming fights are canceled. The fighters who were training for the show scheduled for November 8 are out of luck.
The record will show that the last fight in EliteXC history consisted of a mediocre MMA veteran named Seth Petruzelli knocking out Kimbo in 14 seconds. That may have been the knockout blow for EliteXC as well. Kimbo, who no longer has a promotion to fight for, is now a free agent, and thanks to that loss, he'll have a very hard time convincing any promotion to pay him to fight. Kimbo may have to go back to fighting on YouTube.
The big winner in all of this is the UFC, which is still the undisputed champion of the sport.

I'm actually a little disappointed. Not about Kimbo. Lawler vs. Villasenor was going to be a war.
My guess is that Affliction will pick up the scraps here, right?
Sucks for Carano, and womens MMA as a whole ...
F Kimbo... I'm disappointed that we won't get to see the Nick Diaz vs. Eddie Alvarez fight too. That was going to be a fun one.
This makes me feel bad for Kimbo, and the other fighters. These people work hard to get to where there at. Even though they aren't up to a UFC level, they are still fighters putting on a show for you and I. I'm sure they will be fighting in other leagues in no time. And Kimbo is a decent stand-up fighter with a world class punch, but is just not well rounded for mixed martial arts. Give him some time, and more training, and I do believe he can be a successful MMA fighter.
This is what happens when you build your fighters up on image not substance. Kimbo was "supposed to be " this bad Ass and street thug and he got KO'd by a UFC reject. Every excuse was made by his people and fans possible to a fix to Kimbo taking a dive. The bottom line is Kimbo is nowhere near a top 10 or 20 fighter. He whipped some chumps on the net and that was supposed to make him a great fighter, but it didn't. Dana White built UFC the right way on great fighters, fights, belts and did it the moral way. Not everyone likes Dana but like him or not he made MMA what it is today. I say good job Dana and keep the great fights coming ..
Brock Lesnar= Kimbo Slice. UFC is not doing anything extraordinarily different than what any marketing company is doing. UFC is already ontop so everyone else only has this cheap perspective about other companies as if their fighters are not as good or the company is fail.
Everyone has strong words about Kimbo and how good UFC is.
Seth Petruzzelli,a UFC reject, like Robbie Lawler... im sure.
Pride fighting invested fights with butterbean who later evolved his game to later submit someone lol. Kimbo can do the same if everyone calms the hell down.
They enjoy the spectacle associated with huge fighters over in Japan, but Pride wasn't stupid enough to put Butterbean in a main event ... they reserved that for Wanderlei, Fedor, etc.
How can you say that Lesnar is the same as Kimbo when Lesnar was a champion collegiate wrestler. Not to mention that he is a well trained athlete who has a win over Heath Herring, and has faced former champ Frank Mir ... who has Kimbo fought? I'm not a fan of Pro-wrestling at all, but I respect Brock for his determination, athleticism, and achievements.
The Old UFC fights were the best..Royce Gracie, Shamrock etc.
Kimbo Slice is/was a fraud. If it wasn't for UFC this clown wouldn't have been on network television. Personally I think Kimbo should change his name back to Zebediah and go back to the Amish community that he wandered away from. He sucks!!
I never was a Kimbo fan and could not careless about him
But I am disapointed. I think there is a need for smaller promotions. Anybody that knew anything about mma knew elite Xc place. And overall if you forget Kimbo they gave us decent mma fights I feel.
This sucks huge and that Seth is part to blame. If Elite XC did honestly make an offer for him to take a fall in the fight fixing it in Kimbo's favor, I could understand but they simply offered him a bonus if he would fight a certain style. The reports about this caused, according to numerous sources, CBS to back out of financially backing/buying out Elite XC and thus, declaring bankruptcy. CBS was afraid the Florida atheletic commision would find them in the wrong based on Seth's statements and thus kill the credibility of the organization.
I think another part of this equation not mentioned here is Elite XC's parent company trying to buy up as many small organizations in the world as they could to establish themselves there as opposed to simply working with the groups. They tried to conquer based on a network contract with CBS and their cable deal with Showtime(owned by CBS)hoping it could compete with UFC and right now, UFC is just a bigger name brand with better known fighters and more resources then they had. I wanted Elite XC to succeed simply to see the competition improve the product of both because Elite was the closest thing they had and all you had to do to tell that was see when UFC had programming on Spike to counter Elite XC's shows in the hopes to get their ratings down. I don't know if the executives at Elite just got carried away with power when they bought those companies but in the end, as they declare bankruptcy, it sure looks like it didn't help. AS MDS mentioned, the biggest loser seems to be the women's division and guys who would not get a shot on UFC while guys like Shields, Diaz and Lawler will more then likely get good paydays by UFC and possibly Afflicition(if they can afford to run shows themselves) and show if they deserve to be mentioned with UFC top names. Good luck to all involved and I think this whole deal bites but its the nature of business.
I never did see anything special about Kimbo. I have said it brfore and I will say it again, any one can punch. Sure, it helps when you are a block head and you can take a punch. Same thing with Brock Lesner. Randy Couture might have some mileage on him but he has alot more experience than any fighter out there. As for Elite xc, I dont know what to tell you. I wish I had a solution so we could still get to watch those fights. Hey Kimbo, stay on You-tube.
Does any one have anything to say about the Lesner-Couture fight?
You think Randy will win, right? By what means do you think Randy can finish the fight, or do you think he will win a decision?
No surprise. Elite XC was awful. Everything about the presentation was WACK. They had a few good fighters-Diaz, Arvloski, Gina-is good for women's MMA. Other than that-watching it on CBS just didn't feel right. Poor presentation, IMO it always had this "cheesy feel" to the broadcast.
Kimbo fought Thompson and Thompson beat Don Frye and several others in Pride Fighting.
Heath Herring is a sucker against wrestlers- it was a douzy for Lesnar.
Mir showed us what happens when you put a non-mixed martial artist vs a real fighter.
Same thing with Kimbo/seth. You can argue the caliber of the opponents but it doesnt matter- they both lost to real fighters and they both have been groomed to fight certain fighters to "up" their game and fame.
The only real difference is their is alot of haterration for a guy who fought on the streets his whole life and is fighting in the cage at 36, and busted his as in a near loss against thompson, and then to put the cherry ontop ,he has a quick card change in a cage match that he still accepted against Seth petruzzelli who is known to knock people out with that same combo(bob sapp).
So what is the real problem with Respect for Lesnar and none for Kimbo? Division wrestling does not count for MMA wins/lossess and neither does steetfighting.
Seriously, you are bringing up Thompson ... ? Thompson has been knocked out 8 times, and Frye was in his 40's when he beat him. Not to mention that Kimbo nearly lost to "Glass Jaw" Thompson.
Besides - I have said time and time again, it's not Kimbo's fault it is the organizations. They tried to turn a star into a fighter instead of Vice-versa. Kimbo will never beat a decent fighter.
LOL, Brock Lesnar could beat Kimbo using no arms. Elite XC was a joke. Here is hoping the other leagues fold as well. The last thing MMA needs is 4 heavyweight champs like boxing. If you are old enough to remember - I am - when boxing had only 1 champ per division it was awesome. MMA needs to go that route, to many "leagues" will ruin the sport.
Sucks for Tito Ortiz. He left the UFC for EliteXC and now he's SOL
i think it sucks , ufc is ok i guess but dana white is too greedy a sob . everything has to be pay-per-view with him , and you don't get to see the big fights till months or maybe a year after the fact. i know recently he's putting on some freebies , but they're not the big ones. boxing at least shows the big bouts a week or so after the pay-per-view event has past. ol' dana will keep charging to see his re-runs .
Like alot of pther people's comments on here I never really cared for Kimbo Slice either but I can't lie I did look forward to the events on showtime. I did like some of the other fighters and I wish them luck in finding another home.
Why did EliteXC go under does anyone know........Not because Kimbo got his ass kicked is it?
Of course Limbo will fight again, because he still draws a Crowed ,as long as People are willing to pay to see hin fight ,he'll continue fighting, it's all the Money.
