Oct 6, 2008 - Most people had never heard of Seth Petruzelli until he knocked out Kimbo Slice on Saturday night. But he's been around for a while, including this fight with Bob Sapp:
Ariel Helwani has the details:
On March 27, 2004, "The Silverback" met Bob Sapp at the Saitama Super Arena for a K-1 fight. Of course, Sapp is not from Japan but, as you may recall, the Japanese crowd did adopt him as one of their own during his magical run at the beginning of the Century. ...FanHouse commenter Drew suggests we call Petruzelli the Freak Show Killer.
While Petruzelli did end up losing the fight to Sapp due to an elbow injury sustained in the first minute, he was able to knock the big man down with a very familiar pleasegetawayfromme hook/jab in the opening moments of the bout.
No matter what happens to him in the future, Petruzelli can claim to be the only man to knock down two of the most overhyped competitors in combat sports history.
