California Commission won't adopt Unified Rules' new weight classes

The California State Athletic Commission will not adopt the new weight classes suggested in the recently updated Unified Rules of MMA.

Earlier this month The Association of Boxing Commissions updated the Unified Rules of MMA to include a total of fourteen weight classes for men and ten weight classes for women.

The major changes for the men's divisions are the additions of the the super flyweight, super lightweight, super welterweight and super middleweight divisions. Ten pounds separate each division instead of the current fifteen to twenty pounds.

The California State Athletic Commission's weight classes are:

Men's Divisions

Flyweight - 125 lbs.
Bantamweight - 135 lbs.
Featherweight - 145 lbs.
Lightweight - 155 lbs.
Welterweight - 170 lbs.
Middleweight - 185 lbs.
Light Heavyweight - 205 lbs.
Heavyweight - 265 lbs.
Super Heavyweight - 265.1 lbs. and over
Women's Divisions
Lightweight - 125 lbs.
Middleweight - 135 lbs.
Light Heavyweight - 150 lbs.
Heavyweight - 175 lbs.
Super Heavyweight - 175.1 lbs. and over
