Our MMA world rankings have been updated for the month of July.

Strikeforce lightweight Josh Thomson made his first appearance in our rankings, shooting up to the number six spot with his dominating win over Gilbert Melendez to win the Strikeforce title. Melendez, formerly number five, slips to number seven.

UFC middleweight Thales Leites also entered our rankings with his win over Nate Marquardt at UFC 85: Bedlam.

In another UFC 85 upset, Thiago Alves knocked out former champ Matt Hughes to claim the number three spot in our welterweight rankings -- just beneath Jon Fitch and Georges St. Pierre.
