ESPN's E:60 recently profiled Kevin Ferguson, better known as the underground fighting phenomenon Kimbo Slice. Part of that profile is here:
His trainer refers to Slice as "just a natural athlete," and this profile me wonder whether Slice really should be considered a legitimate athlete, not just some dude who got in some fights that got posted on the internet.
Although I think the top fighters in UFC would destroy Slice in any type of sanctioned mixed martial arts fight, I do think Slice is a real athlete. ESPN is such a dominant force in the American sports landscape that its decision to profile Slice legitimizes him. And that means we'll be seeing a lot more of him.
